Kelley Polar [ft. Claire de Lune] – "Entropy Reigns (Pearson and Usher's Second Law Dynamix)"

This is our first post in a whopping three weeks. That is a new level of sucky untimeliness for AiMT. And to make it up to you, we've decided to slap you with quite a doozy. Ewan Pearson and Al Usher, who recently brought us a Feist remix, have teamed up again to work their magic on Mr. Polar's already-exquisite "Entropy Reigns (in the Celestial City)."

This club-length edit isn't a drastic change from the original, but we'd rather not hear the track pummeled into oblivion anyway. Sometimes it's best not to tamper too much with good things:

If we wanted a more adventurous version of one of Kelley's tracks, we'd peep the Caribou remix of "We Live in an Expanding Universe," which you can stream here.

Róisín Murphy – "You Know Me Better (iTunes Live Session)"

Róisín's new iTunes EP was a little bland on the whole for our tastes, but the one track from the session we're totally sold on is "You Know Me Better," a curiously stripped-down, jerky pop-funk gem, which is much different from her performance of the song on Jools Holland from a few months back.

In other news, Róisín may never get around to releasing newer music and touring in North America, but one very optimistic blog has started a petition to remedy this. While we're convinced Ms. Murphy will remain focused on her European market, this petition is a noble gesture in our book. Let's see what kind of damage we can do.

Buy Róisín's iTunes Live: London Sessions EP from, um, iTunes (UK only).

40 Thieves [ft. Qzen] – "Don't Turn It Off"

Permanent Vacation, the Munich-based label that brought you Kathy Diamond's exquisite Miss Diamond to You, is back with an oh-so-solid three-track single by San Francisco outfit 40 Thieves.

Full Track (YouSendIt)

This whole disco revival movement is overdue to be cast into the dreaded "outdated" bin along with electroclash, dance-punk and the rest of it. But something about it keeps us coming back. I, for one, am certainly not ready to hang it out to dry. (Then again, I can trend monger with the best of them, so it's entirely possible that I'll find myself with egg on my face in a few years' time.)

Buy the "Don't Turn It Off" single from iTunes.

Streaming Woes

In case you haven't noticed, none of our audio streams seem to be working right now. Not sure what that's all about, but I'll try to get to the bottom of it. Until then, please have a healthy chuckle at this gentleman's alias.

So I'm pretty sure this won't end up being my joint or anything, but it'll be fun for a day or two. I was really hoping it would be some odd amalgamation of electro and reggaeton due to the N.O.R.E. guest spot, but it is no such thing.

A Note to Those of You Who Submit Music to Us

Posted on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 01:06AM by Registered CommenterLuminfire in | Comments Off

OK, so I had really hoped I could avoid making this post altogether, but at this point it has become inevitable.

We've been around for about eight months, and we're getting to the point where we get lots of submissions, and that's very exciting! However, if you actually keep up with AiMT, you'll know that we are somewhat theme-oriented, and we don't cover much of any folk, rock or indie pop. Don't get me wrong—we do go on the occasional tangent now and again, but on the whole we are focused on music of urban and dance-pop varieties.

With that in mind, can someone explain why 90% of the material submitted to us is either folk, rock or indie pop? And not only that, but a lot of it is really good! It makes us sad to get such quality submissions when our incomprehensive theme prevents us from actually posting about them.

What I'm getting at is this: Please don't send us off-topic music. It won't get posted. XXL won't cover the new R.E.M. record, and CMT doesn't show the occasional rap video. For similar reasons, Ants in My Trance will not post about your semi-awesome band that kind of sounds like Animal Collective. Sorry! Sometimes these things are for the best!

(Now, if you've got remixes, that's obviously a different story—you might could holler.)
